The first 72 hours
Colour continues to settle for a couple of days. Try to wait at least 48–72 hours before your first wash so the colour can lock in.
Wash cooler and less often
Hot water opens the hair cuticle and lets colour escape. Rinse with lukewarm or cool water and stretch the time between washes with a dry shampoo if needed. Colour-safe, sulphate-free products help too.
Protect against heat and sun
Heat tools and strong sunlight both fade colour. Always use heat protection, and on long sunny days wear a hat or use a leave-in with UV protection.
Tone and treat
Lightened hair can turn brassy over time. A purple or blue toning shampoo once a week can neutralise warmth. Regular conditioning treatments keep coloured hair soft and shiny.
Plan your touch-ups
Root touch-ups are usually needed every four to eight weeks for full colour; balayage can often go much longer. Talk to your colourist about a maintenance plan that suits your budget and schedule.
